Below are the suggested target understandings and skills for second grade visual arts:
  • Making Art and Expressing Meaning in Art - Express warm and cool ideas and things through warm and cool colors. Use an event important to the students as a subject. Create landscapes that show depth by overlapping. Display some textures in landscapes.
  • Appreciating and Decoding Meaning in Art - Create art that has a use such as a vase, pencil holder, etc. Consider why artworks are grouped in a museum. Discuss why artists used warm and cool colors.

Week of March 15th:

Use this link (a presentation will be available on Monday) to prepare your class for the ART TRUCK experience on art night. I will have the strings and tags ready for you to create with your kids. K, 1st, and 2nd grade will do a tag as a class. 3rd-6th grades will have a tag for each student.

Week of March 8th:

Student collages: Lower grades - self portraits, Upper grades - theme based, roughing up any shiny surface papers and adding embellishments.

Week of February 22nd:

  • Family postcards - Where would you love to be with your family??? Capture it.
  • Crayon and water color resist

Albright Knox Art Games - great to use with direct instruction/interaction and a projector for lower grades
Origami Folding instruction videos I have downloaded some origami folding videos for the wiki. The first one is a must do for all grade levels - the younger the kids, the larger square of paper you should use.
For eMINTS classrooms....An interactive Sumi painting program where students can practice with tools, strokes, and color - a product from this would be great for art night. Lower grades could do this with whole class - would be fun
